Running a web business isn’t just about creating beautiful websites, it’s also about clear, efficient communication. Whether it’s working with clients or collaborating with designers, sharing information in the easiest way possible can save time and energy. For me, the app Zight has been a game-changer in this regard. It’s not only a tool for recording your screen, but also a way to capture gifs, take annotated screenshots, and create videos that keep everyone on the same page.

If you’ve never heard of Zight before, or are curious about how it works, let me walk you through how I use it in my business.

What Is Zight?

Zight is a screen recording and communication tool designed to make visual explanations easier. It allows you to:

  • Record your screen

  • Capture GIFs

  • Create annotated screenshots

For me, it started as a way to help students when I worked as a TA for the ilovecreatives Squarespace Design Course. When students had questions, I could easily record my screen, walk them through my edits on Squarespace, or show them where specific code changes were made. It was a huge help in providing detailed visual answers. Now, Zight is a core part of my workflow.

How I Use Zight

  • Communicating with clients

  • Tutorial walkthrough videos

  • Template and product videos

  • YouTube videos

  • GIFs for blog posts and social media

  • When I need help

One of the biggest advantages Zight offers is the ability to send visual explanations. Websites can feel overwhelming or unfamiliar for some clients so a video showing them where to click or how to update content is often clearer than written instructions.

For example, I create personalized tutorial walkthroughs for every website I build. These videos guide my clients through editing their site, ensuring they feel confident managing their own content. Instead of holding meetings or responding to repetitive questions, I can send clients straightforward, visual answers.

Zight has reduced the number of meetings I have to attend. While I occasionally hop on a discovery call with a client, almost all of our project communication happens through Zight recordings. This keeps projects moving while respecting everyone’s time.

How To Share

Zight offers multiple sharing options:

  • Send a dedicated viewing link

  • Download videos as MP4 files

  • Embed videos directly into your website

How To Keep Organized

  • Name recordings for easy sorting

  • Organize content in dedicated folders for easy access

Custom Branding Options

Zight also lets you add your personal branding, which makes a difference when presenting a professional, polished image. For instance, I’ve replaced the default Zight logo with my own. If someone shares a link to one of my videos, clicking on the logo will lead people directly to my website. This small detail helps reinforce my brand while keeping everything cohesive.

Free vs. Pro Plan

If you’re considering giving Zight a try, you’ll be happy to know it offers a free plan. With it, you can record videos up to five minutes long—more than enough to try the tool and see if it works for you.

Once my business needs grew, I upgraded to the Pro annual plan, mainly so I could record longer videos and store more content.

Conclusion

Zight has become one of the most valuable tools in my web business. It’s not just about saving time, it’s about enhancing the quality of communication. By showing instead of telling, I can offer a smoother experience for clients and collaborators alike.

If you’re tired of endless meetings, long email chains, or unclear instructions, Zight might be exactly what you need. Whether you’re a designer, teacher, or someone trying to simplify communication, give it a try. Start with the free plan and see how it fits into your workflow.
